The Keto Diet (or ketogenic diet) is a low-carb, high-fat diet that offers people many health benefits. There are dozens of studies that can help a person improve their health and help lose weight. Some studies suggest that the keto diet could have benefits to help against diseases and disorders, such as:

  • Cancer;
  • Epilepsy;
  • Diabetes;
  • And Alzheimer’s.

The Keto diet is similar to several other diets in the fact that it is low-carb. Reducing carbs can massively reduce blood sugars and insulin levels. When carbs are reduced, the body starts a metabolic state called ketosis. This makes the body more efficient in burning fat for energy. The process also turns fat into ketone (in the liver), which supplies energy for the brain.

There are different types of Ketogenic Diets. The Standard ketogenic diet (SKD). This diet is a low-carb, with moderate protein levels, and is high in fat. Typically this diet contains 75% fat, 5% carbs, and 20% protein. Another version of the diet is the Cyclical Ketogenic diet (CKD). This diet consists of higher-carb diets, an example of this would be, taking five ketogenic days followed by two days of high-carbs. Bodybuilders and athletes use this type of diet when they are training.
