US authorities have arrested Thomas Markle, the estranged father of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, following the discovery of sexually explicit photographs that appeared to depict him with prepubescent girls, according to law enforcement officials. The arrest, confirmed by federal sources, marks a significant development in a case that has drawn international attention given Markle’s connection to the British royal family. Officials have not disclosed the specific charges filed or the jurisdiction where the material was allegedly found, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. Markle, a former television lighting director who has lived in Mexico and California, has been a recurring figure in media coverage since his daughter’s marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.
Law enforcement representatives said the investigation remains active and further details will be released as the legal process unfolds. It was not immediately clear whether Markle has retained legal counsel or entered a plea. The allegations carry severe legal consequences under US federal and state laws governing the possession and production of child sexual abuse material. Representatives for Meghan and Prince Harry have not commented publicly.
