A coalition of international health organizations, including the World Health Organization and regional public health agencies, announced Tuesday an expansion of early diagnostic programs across major urban centers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The initiative, backed by $340 million in pledged funding, aims to deploy rapid-testing laboratories and mobile screening units in 28 cities over the next eighteen months, targeting non-communicable diseases and infectious conditions that often go undetected until advanced stages.

Officials said the framework builds on pilot programs launched in Nairobi, Jakarta, and São Paulo, where community-based screening increased early detection rates by an average of 22 percent. Dr. Amara Osei, a coalition spokesperson, noted that participating cities will receive standardized training for laboratory technicians alongside data-sharing infrastructure to track outcomes. Critics, however, have raised concerns about long-term funding sustainability and the capacity of local health systems to absorb expanded caseloads. The coalition said it will publish quarterly progress reports beginning in March.
